Why the Democratic Party is Hiding its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

The action from the DNC to suppress the public viewing of its own autopsy report on the 2024 election appears stunning yet not surprising. Opposed to frank assessments, the Democrats' governing body often functions closer to a communications shop rather than an electoral entity focused on cultivating grassroots capacities for winning elections.

An Environment That Avoids Dissent

Hesitant to challenge the prevailing attitude demanding unity, the committee has continued under that legacy throughout this past year. Making public such a report would have indicated that the leadership are interested to promote public discourse regarding the errors which allowed Donald Trump to win re-election. However, the DNC is proceeding as if there are no lessons to glean from the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

Our guiding principle: does this help us win? If the answer is no, it is an unnecessary diversion from our fundamental goal," a rationale that has been offered to justify concealing the report.

Critical Problems an Autopsy Would Have Addressed

A genuine analysis with any value would not dodge certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

  • Electoral Alienation: The loss among a significant portion of the electorate who supported the Democratic ticket in 2020 was decisive during the tight recent race.
  • The Decision to Seek Re-election: The determined choice by a party leader to run again, coupled with an extremely delayed withdrawal, is viewed as denying the party's base the chance for open primaries.
  • Losing Touch With Everyday Americans: During a time of rising costs, the campaign reportedly accommodating powerful financial backers without successfully attempting to confront the effects of big business.
  • A Gaza Factor: The failure to reconsider an approach regarding the situation in Gaza is cited as driving away key demographic groups, notably among youth voters, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Eroding Young Voter Support: Research indicates a major drop-off of Democratic support from the youth electorate.

A Pattern Shunning Scrutiny

The decision to withhold is consistent with a pattern of evading uncomfortable facts. It echoes an episode where the vast majority of Democratic officeholder in Congress supported an incumbent's determination to running for re-election right up until a catastrophic public debate performance led to a change.

Concurrently, large majorities of the electorate were consistently telling surveyors that they did not want the incumbent to be the nominee.

Financial Questions

An honest autopsy might also examine matters about where money went, including how much money flowed to party strategists as well as advertising contractors during a campaign that managed to spend a colossal amount over a few months.

The Underlying Problem

At its core, the suppression surrounding this report highlights a deference toward party leaders responsible for a losing presidential campaign. The message for the party's base – including millions of loyal volunteers – is that they do not have a right to understand what party chiefs have learned from hundreds of interviews based on extensive interviews.

An organization incapable to critically review where it went wrong finds it difficult to climb out of the rut that ended up being so beneficial to the rival party.
