Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then located many other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say early analysis show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.

A senior representative commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
